Getting to Know Team DBD

— 5 minutes, 51 seconds read —
meet the dbd team

We’re a funny old mix here at DBD. Designers, animators, developers, illustrators, a creative director, a project manager and even a furry studio helper in the form of our lovely Taffy. If you ever wanted to know more about the individuals that keep the DBD machine ticking then look no further!

On a short placement, Psychology graduate Hannah Renshaw interviewed the team and here’s what she discovered…

Angela RocheCreative Director

As well as being the Creative Director for Design By Day, Angela also Co-Founded the business back in 2009.

After growing up in the small town of Clitheroe in Lancashire, Angela moved to Salford to complete her first degree in business management. It was during this time that she noticed a flyer on the wall of one of her friend’s rooms and after learning that the flyer had been made as a part of his degree, graphic design, Angela decided this was something she wanted to do. Once she had graduated, Angela then decided to go on to do a second degree in Graphic Design.

DBD was born as so many ideas are, over a beer with her soon to be business partner. From here the two of them left their current design jobs, rented out a studio and took the first steps in making their dream a reality.

Angela’s role in the company now is more focused towards project management, new business and creative direction. Although she is not so much involved with designing anymore, she loves seeing the team’s work come together and the end products they create.

Sami FranceProject Manager/Designer

Due to her outstanding ability to manage and motivate team members as well as successfully keep projects organised and controlled, her role soon developed in to project manager. Now Sami’s duties within the company involve managing projects and staff’s daily tasks, as well as new business meetings and proposals.

Sami began her journey with DBD whilst studying graphic design at Salford University after deciding she wanted the focus of her final project on a design studio, spending 1 day a week at DBD creating promotional material. Once she graduated Sami was invited back to begin a placement with the team, where she ended up staying on and the rest is history! Sami has now been a part of the DBD team for five years.

Prior to her career as a designer/project manager, Sami had seen herself becoming a teacher. Even towards the end of her degree, she was still contemplating going on to do a PGCE after university, however, it was the placement with DBD that made her realise that this was the correct path for her.
