Q&A with the Graphic Design Students at the University of Salford
It was great to be back at Salford University yesterday to spend some time with the 3rd year students from BA Graphic Design. As 2 x Salford Alumni the university and the course has a very special place in my heart.
One of the great things about Salford Graphics degree course is just how much effort the course team put into preparing students for industry and connecting them people from industry.
Yesterday was exactly that! A Q&A session with 2 panels; one consisting of fairly recent graduates that found employment in the creative industry, and the other of more experienced designers and business owners, both with a focus on getting a job after graduation.
The mix of industry and graduates provided the 3rd years with valuable insight; with the grads giving tips and sharing their experiences of gaining employment and industry focussing more on what they look for in a design candidate.
It was great to meet so many motivated students putting questions to the panel and speaking to the grads and industry at the after-event drinks. All universities should be holding events like this!
Coincidently, but in the spirit of yesterday’s employment-focussed Q&A, DBD designer and Manchester School of Art class of 2012, Jonathan, has very kindly put together his top 10 tips on getting yourself a design job after graduation.
